Support & Resources

Everything you need to succeed with SCNC as a Coach, Umpire or Team Manager

Team Manager Support

WE APPRECIATE YOUR COMMITMENT TO SUPPORTING OUR PLAYERS AND Coach. WE HAVE PUT ALL THE TOOLS TO HELP YOU carry out all your team manager responsibilities

The Team Manager is responsible for setting up and managing team communication through the Heja app. This includes keeping parents informed and connected with updates from the SCNC Committee. The Team Manager also organises rosters for parent support, such as scoring and timing, player voting, fruit/snacks, and any other tasks that require volunteers.

All formal communication from the SCNC Committee will be sent to Team Managers via Heja. From there, Team Managers will share this information with their team through their own Heja group. To help this run smoothly, please ensure all parents have their contact details updated correctly in the app.

Parents should also be encouraged to read and respond to all notifications, including training and game day RSVPs. This is especially important, as it helps with planning and makes it much easier to organise fill-in players when needed.

Team Manager Compulsory Course

"Let Kids Be Kids" is a national campaign that addresses poor sideline behaviour, particularly in junior sport. The behaviour of people on the sidelines can significantly affect children’s enjoyment and participation in sport.

Please complete the free course here:

https://www.playbytherules.net.au/campaigns/let-kids-be-kids

Completion of the free “Let Kids Be Kids” mini course is compulsory for all team managers, but only needs to be completed if it has not been done previously. Once finished, the badge certificate should be submitted via email or through Heja to Mel.

Team Managers will need to create a free account with Sport Integrity to access the course.

Team Structure Expectations

All teams must have a team manager. Team Managers play an important support role to Coaches by taking on the following responsibilities:

  • Parent communication support
  • Sideline behaviour management
  • Organising scoring/timing rosters
  •  Assist with organising game day support if required (e.g. team bench, water carrier)
  • Coordinating team tasks (fruit, etc.) -

*It is recommended to complete the schedule after Week 3, once division grading is complete. An example of schedule can be found in resources for Team Managers below.

Uniforms & Equipment

Uniforms and equipment will be issued to Coaches at the Meet & Greet on 30th April 2026.

SCNC Equipment:

  • Kit bag (netballs, pump, first aid kit, training aids, etc.)
  • Coaches polo
  • Coaches jacket
  • Game day booklet

All items must be returned at the end of the Winter season in their original condition. Kit bags are required to be returned prior to the Spring season and must be re-signed out through Vanessa Farber.

Working with Children Requirements

Anyone aged 18+ requires a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) unless exempt. Applications are completed via Australia Post. Forms must be signed by a club executive (President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer) to receive the volunteer rate.

Once you have received your WWCC, please provide a copy to the Secretary for record keeping secretary@swanchristiannetballclub.com

Exemptions
  • Coaches and Team Managers with a child in their team
  • Individuals under 18

All exempt individuals must complete and return a Volunteer Exemption Form to the club for record keeping. Please send completed form to the Secretary for record keeping secretary@swanchristiannetballclub.com

Communication Expectations

The Heja App is our primary communication tool for all teams.

Team Managers are is responsible for setting up the team in the app, adding players and parents. Both the Coaches & Team Managers will be responsible for keeping all information current throughout the season.

Coaches are responsible for scheduling games and training sessions within the app, allowing players and parents to RSVP to events. This ensures that everyone stays informed and organised throughout the season.

Game Day Responsibilities

Team Managers are responsible for maintaining a safe and respectful environment on the sidelines during all matches. This includes modelling positive behaviour and supporting others to do the same.

During games, Team Managers must:

  • Remain off the court at all times
  • Stay behind the yellow line
  • Respect umpire decisions and not approach or question them

Team Managers also play a key role in guiding parents and spectators. They are expected to ensure everyone remains behind the line and behaves in line with the spirit of the game, promoting a positive and respectful sideline environment at all times.

On game day, it’s important to ensure matches run smoothly and accurately. Responsibilities are divided based on the team listed on the draw:

  • Home Team (first team listed): Collects the scorecard and records all scores for the match.
  • Away Team (second team listed): Provides the timer. For NetSetGo and Year 6 games, the timer acts as an observer only.
  • Winning Team: Returns the completed scorecard to the office.

Please ensure to:

  • Record all fill-in players in the designated section of the scorecard
  • Enter all player positions correctly for each quarter

This structure ensures fairness, consistency, and accurate record-keeping for every game.

Years 7-12 Voting System

Team Managers will implement a voting system to determine:

  • Fairest & Best
  • Runner-up

Suggested approach:

  • Use a 3-2-1 voting system each game
  • Rotate parent voters to ensure fairness

Optional:

  • Include umpires in voting

Team Managers will be provided with voting slips via the Coaches & Team Managers Heja group.

This season, Team Managers will also have access to the PlayHQ Team Portal to record votes directly into the system. It is recommended that paper votes are kept in a safe place (e.g. envelope) after being entered.

Votes will be automatically calculated within the system, with recipients announced at the End-of-Season Wind-Up & Awards Celebration.
